Arsenal to ‘hold talks’ over a deal to sign Ademola Lookman
Arsenal are reportedly planning to ‘hold talks’ over a deal to sign Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, as per Caught Offside.
After moving to the Gewiss Stadium from RB Leipzig back in 2022, the 27-year-old has established himself as the talismanic figure for La Dea in recent years. He guided his team to win the Europa League last campaign by scoring a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
This season, he has been helping his side to mount a top-four charge in Serie A. In 35 appearances in the league and Champions League, he has scored 18 goals and registered six assists.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Lookman could leave Atalanta at the end of this season as he will enter the final year of his current contract. Arsenal are interested in signing him and are planning to ‘hold talks’ with the forward’s agent over this deal soon.
La Dea usually don’t let their star man leave for cheap and won’t make any exception this time either, as they want at least £51m for the Nigerian international.
Lookman to Arsenal
Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in him as Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Juventus, and Barcelona are all in this race.
The Blaugrana have even made contact with the player’s representatives to hire him, but it would be difficult for them to get the deal done amid their financial difficulties. The Bianconeri may also struggle to fund this deal.
So, the Premier League clubs would be the biggest obstacle for Arsenal to seal the deal, and they are also willing to open negotiations with the player’s representatives.
Lookman is a left-sided forward and can also play as a second striker. Arsenal reportedly want a new left winger following Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli’s average displays this season.
The Atalanta star is a talented player and is currently at the right stage of his career to take the next step. Therefore, he would be a great coup for the Gunners should they hire him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club manage to secure his service by beating other clubs in this race in the upcoming transfer window.
