Arsenal Handed Injury Boost As Debuchy Returns To Training
Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost with Mathieu Debuchy returning to light training after a lengthy injury absence.
Debuchy has endured an injury-hit campaign and missed the entire first half of the season with a fractured ankle.
He made his return in December but only lasted a handful of games before being sidelined once again after dislocating his shoulder against Stoke on January 11th.
However, it looks like the Frenchman is closing in on making his comeback as he’s been out undertaking a light training session at London Colney today.
Arsenal have been holding an open training session this morning ahead of tomorrow nights clash with Monaco and the Sky Sports live footage I’ve just watched showed Debuchy training away from the main squad along with Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby.
The trio have all been out with various injuries in recent months (or years in the case of Diaby) but they were out on the training pitch and being put through their paces by the coaching staff today.
As long as he doesn’t suffer any set-back, Mathieu should be integrated back into full training within the next week and it will take at least another week of intense training before he’ll be considered for a return to the first team.
With the international break commencing after this weekend’s trip to Newcastle, Debuchy could be in contention to make his return against Liverpool on March 4th as he should have had at least two weeks full training under his belt by that point.
Hector Bellerin has done a fine job deputising at right-back but it will be a huge boost to have a player of Debuchy’s experience available again as we head into a vital run-in.
