‘Obviously He Should Be A Big Target For Arsenal’ – Wenger Urged To Buy Star
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech should be a key target for Arsenal this summer, according to former Blues stopper Carlo Cudicini.
Cech is expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season after losing his place to Belgian youngster Thibaut Courtois.
The Czech international has already confirmed he’ll hold talks with Chelsea chiefs this summer and insists he doesn’t want to stay if he’ll be a back-up again next year.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for the 32-year-old as Arsene Wenger is believed to be on the look-out for a reliable No.1 after axing Wojciech Szczesny back in January.
Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour recently urged the boss to do all he can to lure Cech to the Emirates this summer and former Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini has now supported those claims, telling reporters that the Blues No.2 should be a key target for us.
Cudicini told talkSPORT:
“I agree [with Ray Parlour]
“Arsenal have had a few problems with goalkeepers after [David] Seaman and [Jens] Lehmann.
“[Wojciech] Szczesny is still struggling to impose himself as number one, so if a goalkeeper like Petr Cech is available in the summer, obviously he should be a big target for Arsenal.”
I think I’m with the majority of Arsenal fans in saying I would love to see Cech join the club this summer but I’m still not convinced Jose Mourinho will sell him to us – despite reports suggesting otherwise.
It would be insane for them to sell one of the world’s best keepers to us as it would not only weaken their squad, but they would also be strengthening us and solve a problem we’ve had for years.
I’d love to be proved wrong, but I’d personally be hugely surprised if Cech is an Arsenal player come the start of next season.
