Wenger Speaks Out On Why Alexis Sanchez Chose Arsenal Over Liverpool
Arsene Wenger has spoken out on the possible reason Alexis Sanchez snubbed a potential move to Liverpool in favour of Arsenal last summer.
The Chilean attacker was made available by Barcelona last summer as they prepared to welcome Luis Suarez to the Nou Camp.
This led to talks over a possible player-plus-cash swap deal that would see Sanchez move to Anfield as part of the deal, however, the 26-year-old opted for a switch to the Emirates instead.
Arsene has now admitted he was aware of Liverpool’s interest and feared they may be in pole position due to their negotiations with Barca over Suarez, but claims he doesn’t know the precise reason Sanchez chose a move to Arsenal in the end.
“I was aware of Liverpool’s interest but you never know [at the time] if it’s really true,” Wenger told reporters
“But I thought it could be true because of Suarez.
“In the negotiations [for Sanchez], yes, it was a strength [Liverpool were already speaking with Barcelona about Suarez]. It made sense, an exchange and some money for Liverpool.
“At the end of the day only Sanchez can explain to you why he has chosen us. I don’t know why he did that but we were happy to let him make that decision.”
Arsenal and Liverpool fans have argued over the reason since Sanchez moved to North London last summer but the truth is, who cares?!
He did opt for us and obviously it’s worked out well as Sanchez has been outstanding for most of the season. So let’s just enjoy the fact he plays for The Arsenal and hopefully he can shows the scousers what they missed out on tomorrow.
