Boss On Transfers, Confident Trio Will Be Arsenal Players Next Year
Arsene Wenger has given some thoughts on his potential summer transfer activity and also revealed that he’s confident Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta will still be at Arsenal next season.
Walcott is about to enter the final year of his contract and has been strongly linked with a move away this summer after struggling to force his way back into the bosses first team following a year out through injury.
However, Arsene has told Arsenal.com that he feels Theo is getting back to his best and would like him to remain at the club.
Both Arteta and Rosicky are out of contract in June but the boss is also confident they will agree new deals at the end of the season.
“I believe that Theo has a great future,” said Wenger.
“He is just coming back from a very, very difficult injury. Every week he is getting better, he is very young and I believe he will have a great goalscoring record in the future because of the quality and intelligence of his game, and therefore I would like him to stay with our club.”
“Yes, I think they [Arteta & Rosicky] will be here next season. We’ll sort that out at the end of May,”
I’m a big fan of Walcott’s and would hate to see him leave the club so hopefully we can get a new deal resolved this summer.
While Arteta and Rosicky can no longer command a first team place on a regular basis, it’s important to have experience in the squad so again lets hope they pen new deals at the end of the season.
It’s getting towards that time of year when we’re linked with numerous players throughout Europe but although Arsene wouldn’t be drawn on specific names, he hinted that his business this summer will be linked with the futures of the players who are on loan such as Podolski, Sanogo and Campbell.
He continued:
“I cannot give you any names because at the moment we are focused on achieving our targets until the end of the season,” he said.
“Every game is vital now and we just want to focus on our games. We have a massive squad, we have a big, big squad, we have 24 players at the moment and we have players like Podolski, Sanogo and Joel Campbell out on loan.
“So for us it will first be important to prepare well and get the right dimension of the squad and if needed to add what we can add.”
I think it’s safe to say Podolski will be leaving on a permanent basis this summer but it will be interesting to see what the boss does with Sanogo and Campbell.
