6 Players Rested: The Arsenal XI That Should Line-Up Against WBA
Arsenal finish off the Premier League season when we take on West Brom at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
We have practically secured third after the 0-0 draw with Sunderland in midweek as we hold a three point lead and +7 goal difference over Man Utd, so this game is basically a dead rubber.
Therefore, I think we should be looking ahead to the FA Cup final and resting some key men. Arsene Wenger hinted at his press conference earlier that he’ll only rest one or two, but I think that would be a big risk and one not worth taking.
So this is the team I’d put out for the game…..
Goalkeeper: Ospina
I’m assuming [and hoping] Arsene will stick with Szczesny for the cup final so Ospina should keep his place on Sunday. If the boss plans to play his No.1 against Aston Villa, then I’d like to see the Szczesny given a game this weekend.
Defence: Chambers, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Monreal
Bellerin looks jaded so I’d definitely give him a rest. Debuchy is going to be short of fitness for this Sunday so I’d give Chambers a rare run-out at right-back.
I’d also like to see Koscielny given a breather to protect him for the final, so Gabriel should start alongside Per with Monreal recalled at left-back after being rested in midweek.
Midfield: Flamini, Wilshere
Yes, I know, ‘Flamini?!’ I hear you shout. But I’d hate to see Coquelin miss the final so I’d leave him out on Sunday and start the Flamster. Wilshere looked sharp against Sunderland in the first half so he can get another run-out in midfield with Cazorla given a well-earned rest.
Attack: Ramsey, Ozil, Rosicky, Walcott
I’m not a fan of Ramsey on the right but needs must. With The Ox and Welbeck ruled out, we don’t have too many options in attack so Rambo will have to continue to play out-of-position.
Sanchez is running on fumes so he should definitely get a rest which could see Rosicky come in to make a rare start. Ideally I’d rest Ozil as well but we don’t have too many other options so he’ll have to play.
Up front, I think Giroud needs a rest ahead of the final so I’d give Theo a go up front. It’s far from ideal and the team has absolutely no balance, but my priority would be the FA Cup so this is the team I’d put out:
Basically, I’d rest Bellerin, Koscielny, Coquelin, Cazorla, Sanchez and Giroud. Whoever Arsene wants to play instead is fine by me but this was the best 11 I could come up with given the players available for selection.
What would you do? Would rest players? What team would you put out?
