Confirmed: Petr Cech Completes £11m Arsenal Move, Signs 4-Year Deal
It’s finally done! Arsenal have announced the signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea.
After weeks of speculation, the move appeared to be on after Sky Sports reported last week that we’d agreed a fee in the region of £11m.
The BBC reported on Friday morning that Cech had arrived at London Colney to undergo his medical and we then heard rumours he was having his official photo-shoot that evening.
We’ve been patiently waiting for the official announcement and it finally come a short time ago when Arsenal, Chelsea and Cech all confirmed the move on Twitter.
We’ve only confirmed that the keeper has joined on a long-term contract but Telegraph journalist Jeremy Wilson claims he’s signed a four-year deal worth £100,000-a-week.
Cech revealed in his first interview with the official website that he made his mind up to join Arsenal after speaking to boss Arsene Wenger.
He told Arsenal.com:
“I’m really excited about joining Arsenal Football Club and can’t wait to join up for pre-season. I have the same commitment to football, the same motivation and the same hunger for success as I had at the beginning of my career, and I love the challenges brought by the top quality players you face while playing in the Premier League. When Arsène Wenger spoke to me about his ambitions for this club, and how he saw me as part of this team, the decision was clear.”
Cech is now set to link-up with his new Arsenal team mates for pre-season training and I’m sure the boys [Rosicky in particular!] will give him a warm welcome.
It’s going to be interesting to see who’ll now make way but I think Ospina will be the man to leave with the Colombian being linked with moves to France and Turkey in recent days.
Szczesny will hopefully then stay as No.2 and learn from Cech over the next few seasons before potentially taking over from the Czech international.
I really believe this is a game-changing signing for us as we finally have a world class keeper we can rely on and I think it’s going to make a huge difference.
Welcome to Arsenal Petr!
