6 players axed! The Arsenal XI that must start against Chelsea
Arsenal endured another night to forget in the Champions League last night but we need to get it out of our system quickly as we’ve got a huge game at Chelsea on Saturday to think about. This would be my team….
Goalkeeper: Cech
Why on earth was he rested last night? Arsene Wenger says he gave him a rest ‘mentally’ because of his lack of football last season, which is a load of rubbish. Start him. Always.
Defence: Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Monreal
The Zagreb defeat taught us that our back-up players like Debuchy and Gibbs aren’t at the same level as Bellerin and Monreal right now, so the duo need to be recalled on Saturday.
Mertesacker should be available again after recovering from a troublesome virus but I’d stick with Gabriel alongside Kos.
Midfield: Cazorla, Coquelin
Arguably Arsene’s biggest mistake last night was resting Coquelin and starting Arteta. The Spaniard’s legs have gone and he can’t cut it at the highest level anymore.
Coquelin needs to be one of the first names on the team sheet, and although Cazorla was poor against Zagreb, he should keep his place this weekend.
Attack: Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott
I’ve never been a fan of Ramsey on the right but The Ox showed again last night why he’s not quiet ready to play week-in, week-out, after losing his man for the opening goal. We need Ramsey’s work ethic down the right against Chelsea to protect against Hazard.
Ozil and Sanchez had nights to forget in Croatia too but they are world class and we simply can not leave them out.
Giroud’s confidence is going to be rock bottom after his dismissal while Walcott came off the bench to score a classy goal, so it’s a no brainer who should start up front.
So, Ospina, Debuchy, Gibbs, Arteta, The Ox and Giroud out. This is how I’d shape-up:
This would be my team and unusually this is actually the side I think the boss will pick on Saturday. It’s currently our best eleven and hopefully it will be good enough to come away with a positive result. We’ll need to play a lot better than we did last night though….
