Confirmed: Arsenal star ruled out for month with fresh injury
Arsene Wenger has confirmed midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out for a month after picking up a fresh hamstring injury against Bayern Munich.
Ramsey pulled up while chasing down a loose ball early in the second half on Tuesday night and immediately signalled to the bench that his game was over.
The Welsh international limped off the pitch and headed straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arsenal fans were fearing the worst.
Arsene Wenger admitted after the game the injury was a ‘tough one’ but stopped short of putting any timescale on how long he’d be out for.
However, the boss has now told Arsenal.com that after undergoing a scan today, Ramsey has now been ruled out until after the next international break.
That would see him miss a minimum of five games during what’s going to be a busy few weeks for the club with the midfielder to sit out games against Everton, Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea, Bayern Munich and Tottenham.
We then have an international break and Ramsey will hope to make his return against West Brom on November 21st.
Losing Ramsey for a month is a major blow but we have to be cautious with him as he’s been troubled by hamstring injuries over the past 12 months. He suffered three pulled hamstrings last season – twice missing three weeks and once being ruled out for five weeks – so we can’t rush him back.
His absence leaves us a little short of options in midfield and attack as Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck are also out long-term so we need to pray we don’t pick up any more injuries over the coming weeks.
It does however offer Oxlade-Chamberlain an excellent opportunity to stake his claim for a regular first team place with the winger set to start against Everton on Saturday.
