It looks like we’ve finally been given some positive news on the injury front with the Mirror reporting encouraging updates on Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott.
Sanchez limped out of our 1-1 draw at Norwich City on Sunday after pulling up with a hamstring injury mid-way through the second half.
Arsene Wenger admitted after the game that he thought the injury could be a serious one and there were initial reports suggesting the Chilean star could be facing up to six weeks on the sidelines.
However, the Mirror claim that following further scans, Arsenal’s medical team are now confident the injury isn’t as serious as first thought.
Sanchez has been given permission to head back to South America to recuperate and is still expected to miss the upcoming games against Sunderland, Olympiakos and Aston Villa.
But the good news is that he should be back for the Christmas and New Year period, and could even be in contention when we entertain Manchester City at the Emirates on December 21st.
In a double boost, the newspaper also reports that Walcott is closing in on making his first team return and could be on the bench for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Sunderland.
Theo has been out for six weeks since suffering a calf injury during out Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in late October but he’s now on the verge of making his comeback and is certain to be in the squad for our crucial Champions League showdown against Olympiakos next week.
Walcott’s return is obviously a timely one considering Sanchez is now facing a spell on the sidelines and we should now finally be able to give Olivier Giroud a well-earned rest as the striker has looked knackered in recent weeks.
