Team news: Wenger confirms duo will miss Aston Villa match
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa and he’s given a team news update.
The boss was pleased to confirm that we suffered no fresh injury worries following Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Olympiakos so the squad will remain the same as in midweek.
We do still have a number of injured players nursing long-term injury problems with Alexis Sanchez and Mikel Arteta thought to be the two closest to making there first team return.
Sanchez is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring problem that he picked up against Norwich two weeks ago while Arteta is still out with a calf injury that he suffered last month.
However, as expected, the boss has confirmed that the trip to Villa will come too soon for the pair so a return against Manchester City next week is the best they can hope for.
The rest of the injured players such as Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin will all make their returns at various points after the turn of the year.
So we’ll head to Villa Park with the same squad that faced Olympiakos and while it’s obviously a big blow to be without seven first team players, we proved in midweek that the available players can pull off a big result so hopefully we can bring three points back to North London on Sunday.
