Arsenal Team News: Wenger On Sanchez, Rosicky & Elneny
It’s been another busy day of team news updates at Arsenal HQ so here is a round-up of all the latest news from Arsene Wenger…
The boss held his pre-match press conference on Friday morning ahead of Sunday’s trip to Stoke and predictably new signing Mohamed Elneny was a hot topic for discussion.
As well as giving his thoughts on why he signed the Egyptian international, Wenger also confirmed that he’s available for selection this weekend but he hasn’t decided yet whether it’s too soon to use the midfielder.
I personally think it would be a huge risk to start Elneny but perhaps it would be useful to have him on the bench and give him 20 minutes if the game allows it.
Thankfully we suffered no fresh injury concerns following the Liverpool game and Alexis Sanchez could make his return to the squad this weekend after overcoming a hamstring injury.
The Chilean international will have a late fitness test but hopefully we won’t take any unnecessary risks with him as the last thing we want is Alexis suffering a set-back.
The final update from Arsene was regarding Tomas Rosicky and the midfielder isn’t ready just yet to make his return to first team football after missing the entire season so far with a knee injury.
Wenger wants Rosicky to play for the under-21’s or at least get another weeks training under his belt before he’ll be considered for the first team.
Here is what Arsene told Arsenal.com:
on the team news…
From Liverpool we have no injuries, so that’s good news.on whether Elneny will play…
Elneny is available for selection, I haven’t decided yet [whether I will play him]. I have to see how everyone has recovered. Elneny is a possibility to be in the squad for Sunday.on Alexis…
Alexis I would say has a 60:40 chance to be available and be back in the squad. He has two decisive days – Friday and Saturday. He is fit, he has worked very hard and the decision we have to take is whether to take a gamble or not on his injury.on Rosicky…
Tomas needs first to have a game somewhere. We hope for maybe an under-21 game or at least a bit more training with the first team.
Elsewhere, as we reported earlier, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Francis Coquelin are understood to be back in light training but it’ll be at least 2-3 weeks before any of the trio are ready to make their first team comeback.
So it looks as though the squad is finally getting healthier so fingers crossed we don’t suffer any fresh injuries this weekend….which is a tall order considering we’re away to Stoke!
