Arsenal make enquiry to sign Spanish hitman – report

By on January 26, 2016

Some more transfer gossip to bring you tonight and according to talkSPORT, Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing Alvaro Morata before the end of the month.

Morata has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for some time and we were reportedly in for his signature before he opted for a switch to Turin in 2014.

The Spanish international enjoyed an encouraging debut season in Italy having scored 15 times to help Juventus reclaim the Serie A title.

However, the 23-year-old has struggled to replicate that sort of form and with just three goals to his name so far this campaign, Morata has found himself behind the likes of Paulo Dybala in the pecking order.

It’s led to speculation the striker could be set for a move and talkSPORT are reporting that Arsenal are one of several clubs who’ve expressed an interest in signing him before the close of the winter window.

The report indicates that we’ve already been in contact with Juve officials to enquire about Morata’s situation but will face competition from the likes of Tottenham and Leicester City.

It’s not clear whether the Serie A champs are willing to let Morata go, either on loan or on a permanent basis, but Morata could be tempted to switch clubs in order to try and regain some sort of form ahead of Euro 2016.

I personally can’t see Wenger splashing out big money to sign Morata on a permanent deal this month but the boss could be looking at a short-term loan with a view to making it permanent in the summer if all goes to plan.

We could certainly do with another option up front and someone to compete with Olivier Giroud, and Morata is a big talent who could fit in well to our system.

However, I’d still be surprised if anything came of this and my gut feeling is Morata will remain in Turin until at least the end of the season.
