Arsenal to reopen talks over deal for £23m-rated midfielder – report

By on February 15, 2016

According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are set to reopen talks with the agent of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot about a potential summer switch to North London.

Rabiot is a name most of you should be familiar with as he’s been linked with a move to the Emirates for quite some time with Arsene Wenger believed to be a huge fan of the midfielder.

Speculation intensified throughout the January window with the Telegraph reporting at one stage that Wenger had met with the midfielder’s agent, who is also his mother, in London to discuss a possible £23m move.

A deal failed to materialise as PSG were able to keep hold of Rabiot, despite the midfielder going public with his desire to leave Paris in search of regular first team football during the second half of the season ahead of the 2016 Euro’s.

However, it looks as though Wenger has maintained his interest as the Mirror are citing reports coming out of France that claim we’re set to resume negotiations with his agent with a view to finally luring the 20-year-old to North London this summer.

We signed Mohamed Elneny in January but with Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky all set to leave when their contracts expire in June, we’re going to certainly need to bring in another central midfielder and it looks like Arsene has set his sights on Rabiot.

The youngster is considered a huge talent in his homeland and we’d have to fight off stiff competition for his signature, but I’d fancy our chances of winning the race given the bosses reputation for nurturing young French talent.

Let’s see how things develop but I think Rabiot would be an astute signing and someone who would give us real depth in the defensive midfield department next season.
