Photo: Arsenal ace all smiles as he receives treatment on injury

Arsenal defender Gabriel is back in Brazil undergoing treatment on his injured hamstring.

The centre-back was due to start in our crucial top-of-the-table clash with Leicester City on Sunday but was ruled out of the game after picking up a hamstring injury.

The club described the injury as ‘minor’ on Sunday but it appears it must be reasonably serious as the defender has been given permission to fly back to Brazil to receive treatment at his former club Victoria.

Arsenal have made no official comment on Gabriel’s situation but Brazilian-based Sky Sports journalist Paulo Freitas shared a photo on Twitter showing the 25-year-old smiling on the treatment table as he received treatment in his homeland.

It’s not clear how long Gabriel will be out for but speculation is growing on social media sites that he’s been ruled out for at least two weeks meaning he’ll miss next weeks crucial Champions League last-16 clash with Barcelona.

Even a minor hamstring injury would be around 10 days on the sidelines so it does seem likely that he’ll miss the titanic clash with the Spaniard champions.

We’ll have to wait for an update from Arsene Wenger later this week but Gabriel is almost certain to sit out the Hull game on Saturday and with Koscielny nursing a dead leg, it looks as though Chambers will start alongside Mertesacker this weekend.

Let’s hope Gabriel’s injury isn’t a serious one and he can make a swift recovery as it would be a big blow to lose him for any period of time, especially with vital games at Man Utd and Tottenham coming up.
