Alexis Sanchez says he has no regrets leaving Barcelona because he is loving life at Arsenal.
Sanchez made the move to North London in 2014 when we agreed to pay £35m for his signature and he immediately settled in to life in the Premier League.
The Chilean international enjoyed a superb debut season with the club as he scored 25 goals and provided 12 assists to help us secure a top three finish and retain the FA Cup, with the attacker scoring a stunner in the final against Aston Villa.
Alexis has seen his second season interrupted by injury but he’s still managed to score 10 goals and provide 7 assists in his 26 games so far to help maintain our title challenge.
The 27-year-old has struggled in recent weeks since returning from a three month absence with a hamstring injury but Sanchez will be looking to get back to his best form when we welcome Barcelona to the Emirates on Tuesday night in the first leg of our Champions League last-16 tie.
As Sanchez prepares to face his former side for the first time, he’s confirmed he has no regrets about leaving the Catalan giants as he feels joining Arsenal was a positive move for his career due to the competition he faced at the Nou Camp.
There have been reports in the media in recent weeks suggesting that Alexis may consider his future at the end of the season but the player appears to have squashed that idea after saying he loves it at Arsenal.
Sanchez is quoted as saying in the Mirror.
“I never regret my decisions. It wasn’t easy to leave Barcelona. I fulfilled a dream when I moved there – to play in Spain and for the champions – but very few players stay in the same club all their life. To leave is normal.
“I wanted a new project, a new experience. And with so many attacking players at Barca it was a good choice to go.
“The directors told me clubs were interested. So I think it was a good choice to go to Arsenal, the best choice. It has been a positive move and I love it at Arsenal.”
Obviously it would have been tough for Sanchez to leave a club like Barcelona but he had little choice as he wasn’t always a regular and was clearly under-appreciated over in Spain.
He’s thrived in the limelight here at Arsenal but we’re going to need him to get back to his best if we’re going to stand a chance of getting a positive result on Tuesday night.
