Fit Again Arsenal Star Could Be Left Out Against Barcelona
According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger is considering leaving Laurent Koscielny out of tomorrow’s clash with Barcelona despite the defender being fit again.
Koscileny has missed our last four matches after suffering a calf injury following our 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford last month.
The 30-year-old returned to training last week and Wenger said at his press conference on Friday that the centre-back would be given a late fitness test ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup quarter final with Watford.
In the end, Koscielny wasn’t risked against the Hornets and we slumped to a hugely disappointing 2-1 defeat to end hopes of retaining the FA Cup for a record third consecutive season.
The Daily Star claim that Koscielny is now considered fit and available for selection against Barcelona but the boss is considering resting him tomorrow night ahead of Saturday’s crucial league game with Everton, and will make a final decision after today’s training session.
If we’re honest, we have virtually no chance of turning around the 2-0 first leg defeat at the Nou Camp, so I feel Arsene would be right to prioritise our trip to Goodison Park this weekend.
The title looks over unless we suddenly find some form and Leicester/Spurs collapse, but with West Ham and Man Utd now breathing down our necks, we still have to secure a top four place so we desperately need a result against Everton.
The Barca game is a bit of a nightmare as we go there in dreadful form with the player’s confidence at an all-time low, so a heavy defeat at the Nou Camp could be the final straw for this fragile squad.
Let’s hope we can put in a decent display, come away with some dignity and go to Goodison in a positive frame of mind.
