Arsene Wenger makes Swiss star his No.1 summer transfer target

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made Borussia Monchengladbach star Granit Xhaka his number one transfer target this summer.

Wenger’s position as manager has come under intense scrutiny by large sections of the clubs fan-base in recent months as we look destined to finish the season trophyless with Leicester City odds-on to clinch the Premier League title.

But the Frenchman insists he’s not ready to walk away after vowing to fulfill the final year of his contract, and it appears Arsene is already planning ahead to next season.

The Telegraph claim that Wenger will be handed a £75m transfer budget and after signing just one outfield player this season, it looks like the boss is finally ready to spend some serious money in the transfer market.

The report suggests that a new midfielder is Wenger’s priority and he’s supposedly made Granit Xhaka his number one target after having chief scout Steve Rowley watch the midfielder on several occasions this season.

Xhaka has been excelling for Monchengladbach this campaign and has already hinted he’d consider a move to the Emirates, but the Telegraph suggest we’ll need to fork out a club record £35m fee in order to land the Swiss international.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsene will be prepared to pay that kind of money but Xhaka would be an excellent signing if we could bring him to North London this summer.

With Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all set to leave when their contracts expire in June, we will need to bring in at least one more central midfielder and the 23-year-old would fit the bill nicely.

The defensive midfielder is strong in the air and is known for his excellent passing ability so he’d provide real competition to the likes of Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny in the holding role next year.
