Arsenal agree personal terms with Croatian striker – reports
According to a report in the Express, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Croatian striker Antonio Colak and are now trying to thrash out a deal with his club Hoffenheim.
The newspaper claims that Arsene Wenger has been tracking the 22-year-old for some time and has decided to step-up his interest with a formal move to try and bring him to the Emirates this summer.
An apparent ‘source’ close to the striker has spilled the beans and the Express suggest that personal terms with Colak have now been agreed, and we’re now left trying to agree a fee with Hoffenheim.
The Croatian Under-20 international has just finished off an impressive season on loan at German second-tier side FC Kaiserslautern, where he scored 7 goals in his 25 appearances.
However, he’s facing an uncertain future at Hoffenheim and with just one year remaining on his contract, we should be able to pick him up for a reasonable fee.
Obviously there is a lot of speculation flying about at this time of year so we should take these reports with a pinch of salt but assuming for a second they are true, then it would be a curious move from Wenger.
The boss is in the market for another striker to replace the injured Danny Welbeck and widespread reports have strongly linked us with a move for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy today.
The Mirror claim we’ve triggered the 29-year-old’s £20m release clause and are now working hard to get the deal wrapped-up over the next 24 hours before Vardy leaves with England ahead of the Euro’s on Monday.
Boss confirms move as we close in on £120,000-a-week hitman
So it looks like Vardy is going to be Welbeck’s replacement and if we end up signing Colak as well, it appears the Croatian will be nothing more than a squad player.
I’m all for having strength in depth so I guess it’s worth taking a punt on Colak if we can sign him for a reasonable price.
