Striker speaks out on proposed £20m Arsenal move

Jamie Vardy has finally spoken out on his proposed £20m move to Arsenal but says the speculation is not distracting him and he’s fully focussed on helping England at the Euro’s.

As you’ll all no doubt know by now, Arsenal are currently awaiting Vardy’s decision as to whether he’ll be completing a move to the Emirates after we triggered his £20m release clause at the start of the month.

The Daily Mail claimed back then that the striker had verbally agreed personal terms over a three-year deal worth around £120,000-a-week after holding talks with Arsene Wenger in a London hotel.

However, the deal stalled after Leicester came in with a last ditch attempt to keep him by offering an improved contract and Vardy flew out to France with the England squad without completing his move to Arsenal after deciding to mull over his future during Euro 2016.

There has been constant speculation as to which way the 29-year-old is leaning with some claiming he’s told England team mates he’s going to stay with Leicester while others believe he’ll end up finalising his Arsenal move after the Euro’s.

Until now, Vardy has refused to answer any questions on the proposed Arsenal move but he’s now been quoted by talkSPORT as saying that he’s found it easy to block out all talk of his move to the Emirates and he’s just concentrating on doing a job for England.

“It’s been easy (to shut out talk of a move to Arsenal),”

“I’m here to concentrate and focus on England and that’s all I’m going to be doing and now we’ll just get back on that training field and focus on the next match.”

Vardy came off the bench to score a vital equaliser during England’s comeback win over Wales on Thursday but he’s expected to remain among the subs for Monday’s final Group B clash with Slovakia.

With the Three Lions heading to the knockout stages, we’ve still got a little while longer to wait before we find out whether Vardy will be joining Arsenal or staying at the King Power.

All the noises coming from Leicester claim they are confident he’ll stay, but I’m sure Arsene Wenger will also be confident of luring the striker to the Emirates.

I’ve said many times I’m not bothered either way whether we sign Vardy or not. Sure, he scored 24 goals last season, has pace and would offer us something different in attack next year.

However, he’s also 29 and has only proven himself for one season in a system that was tailored made to his strengthens and one that is nothing like Arsenal play, so I have my doubts over whether he’ll fit in to our style of play.
