Unfortunately, Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has been ruled out for the remainder of Euro 2016 after suffering a thigh injury yesterday.
Rosicky has just come off the back of yet another frustrating campaign with knee and thigh problems restricting him to playing just 20 minutes of first team football for Arsenal.
It looked as though the 35-year-old had put his injury woes behind him as he was declared fit to be in the Czech Republic squad for Euro 2016 and came through their opening 1-0 defeat to Spain last week unscathed having played 87 minutes.
Rosicky was once again selected in the starting eleven for his nations crucial Group D clash with Croatia on Friday night but he went down clutching his leg during the final moments as the Czech Republic came from 2-0 down to salvage a dramatic 2-2 draw to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The Arsenal man told reporters that the injury ‘didn’t look good’ and he was fearing the worst but he was awaiting results of a scan before the full extent of the latest problem was known.
Unfortunately, it looks as though the results are in and the news isn’t good as the official Twitter account for Euro 2016 stated this afternoon:
“Czech Republic doctors confirm that captain Tomas Rosicky will miss the rest of #EURO2016 with a thigh injury.”
It’s a cruel end to another hugely frustrating season for Rosicky but unfortunately this latest injury justifies Arsenal’s decision not to offer the ageing midfielder a new deal.
Rosicky has been with the club 10 years having joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2006 but his time at the club has been plagued by a series of injury problems.
Arsene Wenger has decided it’s finally time to say goodbye as Tomas hasn’t been offered a new deal, so he’ll finally leave North London when his contract expires at the end of the month.
He’ll always go down as one of those players who wasn’t able to fulfill his potential due to injuries, but hopefully Rosicky can get another deal at a new club and try and finish his career on a high note…not on the treatment table.
