Arsenal hope to sign £45m Chelsea target, agent confirms offers

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are still hoping to beat Chelsea to the signature of Alvaro Morata in a possible £45m deal this summer but are waiting to see what Real Madrid’s plans are for the striker.

We’ve been strongly linked with a move for Morata this summer as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a top class striker to compete with Olivier Giroud next season after Jamie Vardy decided to stay at Leicester.

Juventus confirmed last week that Madrid had informed them they’ve activated a £23m buyback clause that was agreed in the deal that took Morata to Turin back in 2014.

Juve chief executive Giuseppe Marotta is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“Real Madrid have informed us of their intention to exercise the right to buy back [Morata], we are just waiting for a written offer.”

“Only then will we see how to proceed, but at the moment the possibility of Morata staying are slim. He will leave Turin and return to Spain.”

There has been intense speculation as to what Madrid plan to do with the 23-year-old but Morata has made it clear he doesn’t want to sit on the bench, which is likely if Karim Benzema remains at the Bernabeu.

Talks are planned with Zinedine Zidane as soon as his return to Madrid is made official on July 1st but the expectation is that the La Liga giants will look to move Morata on at a huge profit with the Mirror suggesting they’ll value the striker at around £45m.

The newspaper claims that Arsenal are still hoping to win the race for the Spanish international’s signature but we’ll face still competition from Chelsea as well as other clubs from throughout Europe.

Morata’s agent, Juanma Lopez, was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying last week that the striker has offers from top Premier League clubs – understood to be Arsenal and Chelsea – but they’ll have to speak with Zidane before knowing what the future holds.

‘As things stand he is a Madrid player from July 1. Whether he will stay or not, you have to ask Real Madrid.

‘We will see. We still have to talk to Zinedine Zidane, but for the moment Morata is happy.’

I think we’ll certainly see Morata moved on by Madrid and hopefully Wenger is prepared to meet their reported £45m asking price as he’d be an excellent addition to the squad.

He’s by no means the finished article and scored just 12 goals in 47 games for Juve last season but he’s got plenty of time left to develop further and I think he has the potential to be a world class striker.

Arsenal to meet agent of £20m attacker this week

Chelsea look to be on the verge of signing Michy Batshuayi but Conte is planning to play two up front so he needs three top class strikers to choose from and he knows Morata well from their time together at Juve.

No doubt they’ll provide stiff competition but hopefully Arsene can persuade Morata to opt for a move to North London if he does come to England this summer.
