Wenger speaks out on decision to rest key Arsenal star
Arsene Wenger has spoken out amid reports that Germany boss Joachim Low will rest Mesut Ozil over the international break.
Speculation coming out of Germany in the media on Thursday morning suggested that Low is ready to leave Ozil out of his squad for their upcoming internationals.
Germany take on San Marino in their latest World Cup qualifier on November 11 before facing Italy in a friendly four days later so it’s safe to say Ozil wouldn’t be needed for either game.
When asked about the rumours at his press conference this morning, Wenger admitted he’d heard ‘noise’ and would welcome what he described as an ‘intelligent decision’ to rest Ozil, but he’ll wait for confirmation from Low before getting too excited.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on whether Mesut Ozil will be rested during the international break…
I got a noise of that, yes. I think it would be an intelligent decision and I would welcome the decision but we have to wait until he [Joachim Loew] gives his selection out to see if Mesut Ozil will get a rest or not.
It would be a huge boost to Arsenal if Ozil is rested over the international break as it would allow his to relax and recharge his batteries before a pivotal part of the season.
We face a huge trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United immediately after the international break before our crucial Champions League clash with PSG three days later.
Then come two Premier League games with Southampton and Bournemouth before the end of November so it would be a major boost if Ozil was well rested ahead of these matches.
