[Video] Santi Cazorla confirms he’ll be back sooner than expected
Arsenal star Santi Cazorla has offered a positive update on his Achilles injury after saying he should be back in two months – one month quicker than first expected.
Cazorla has been on the sidelines since aggravating a long standing Achilles problem during our 6-0 win over Ludogorets back in mid-October.
After a course of pain-killing injections failed to clear up the problem, the 31-year-old was sent to see a specialist and Arsenal confirmed on Thursday that Santi would need to undergo surgery to finally clear up the injury.
Cazorla is due to travel to Sweden early next week to have the operation with the clubs official website suggested that the midfielder’s recovery would take three months, ruling him out until March.
However, Santi has now posted a video on his Instagram account saying that his doctor has told him it’s a quick surgery and he should be back in two months, meaning he could return at the start of February.
Cazorla said in the video:
‘I want to say that we found where the pain is coming from,’
‘The doctor says to me it’s a quick surgery and I’ll be back in two months. So thank you very much for your support and see you soon.’
Obviously it’s still a blow to lose Cazorla for two months as he’s a vital part of the team who’ll be sorely missed, but two months is a lot better than three, that’s for sure.
Wenger now needs to figure out a way to get Arsenal playing again without Cazorla as our performances have been poor since he left the team seven weeks ago.
Granit Xhaka is the obvious answer as he has the ability to be the deep lying playmaker we need to instigate our attacks from deep so let’s hope Arsene is ready to give the Swiss international an extended run in the team.
