Arsenal dealt yet another injury blow + Wilshere recall update
Arsenal have been dealt yet another injury blow ahead of our trip to Chelsea with Francis Coquelin the latest fitness doubt, according to the Express.
Coquelin started against Watford on Tuesday night and was substituted midway through the second half as we chased another goal during our shocking 2-1 defeat at the Emirates.
Everyone thought the defensive midfielder was being sacrificed for a more attacking option in Lucas Perez, however, there may have been another reason behind Coquelin’s withdrawal.
That’s because the Express claim that Arsene Wenger confirmed to reporters after the game last night that the Frenchman picked up a knock and is now an injury worry for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.
The newspaper doesn’t carry any quotes from the boss regarding Coquelin’s supposed injury but it’s the latest piece of bad news from what has become an extremely costly game.
Aaron Ramsey is already ruled out of the Chelsea clash after picking up a calf injury against Watford while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain finished the game limping – although Arsene is confident he’ll recover by the weekend.
With Granit Xhaka still suspended, Mohamed Elneny at the Africa Cup of Nations and Santi Cazorla injured we’re left without any recognised central midfielders who are fully fit heading in to the crucial game at Stamford Bridge.
Understandably, with Arsenal facing a crisis in midfield, fans have been crying out for us to recall Jack Wilshere from his loan spell at Bournemouth.
However, the Sun claim that we don’t have a recall option in the deal so there is no chance we’ll be able to bring Jack back to the Emirates before the end of the season.
It’s a huge error on our part as a recall clause should have been included in the contract, especially given our history of suffering injuries. Nobody is surprised to see the likes of Cazorla and Ramsey on the sidelines while we knew we’d lose Elneny for over a month in January.
Plus, it’s also no shock that Xhaka is a nutter and gets sent off a lot, so it’s safe to say Arsene should have planned for needing plenty of options in midfield this season. That’s why I’m still stunned we let Wilshere go.
