Arsenal star set for swift return after being passed fit for Hull
According to the Mirror, Hector Bellerin is set for a swift return to action after being given the all-clear to feature in Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Hull City this weekend.
Bellerin was substituted after just 14 minutes during our 3-1 defeat at Chelsea after being knocked out by a flying elbow from Marcos Alonso as he headed home the opening ‘goal’.
Inexplicably, the referee allowed the goal to stand despite this assault, and Bellerin was swiftly replaced by Gabriel with the Spaniard still clearly feeling the effects of his head injury.
Arsene Wenger confirmed after the game that Bellerin must have been unconscious as he didn’t even know what the score was when he got back to the bench.
The Express reported yesterday that Bellerin had been given a few days off and wouldn’t return to training until Friday as they awaited the results of an MRI scan.
It seems the results are now in as the Mirror are claiming today that the scans have shown no sign of any lasting damage so Bellerin has been given the all-clear to play this weekend.
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Bellerin will start against Hull on Saturday lunchtime as FA guidelines suggest players don’t play for up to 14 days following a head injury.
Ultimately the decision rests with the club though so no doubt Hector will be assessed when he returns to London Colney but I’d personally be surprised to see him start this weekend.
Arsene seems to have faith in Gabriel at right-back so my gut feeling is the boss will give Bellerin a few more days to recover and save him for next weeks Champions League trip to Bayern Munich.
