Arsenal offer official injury update on Hector Bellerin
Arsenal have offered an official injury update on the condition of Hector Bellerin after confirming that the defender is being assessed daily following his head injury against Chelsea.
Bellerin was knocked out during our 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge after Marcos Alonso caught him in the face with a raised elbow when he headed home the opening ‘goal’.
The Spanish international was replaced by Gabriel and Arsene Wenger admitted after the game that Hector didn’t even know what the score was after the incident.
There has been plenty of speculation in the newspapers this week as to whether Bellerin would be allowed to play against Hull City on Saturday due to the FA’s apparent ’14-day rule’ with concussions.
However, Arsenal have now released a statement clarifying that Bellerin is in the final stages of his recovery as per the FA’s protocol and has passed daily assessments.
The 21-year-old will continue to be monitored over the next couple of days before a final decision will be made over his involvement against the Tigers this weekend.
A statement on Arsenal.com read:
Hector Bellerin was substituted after just 17 minutes of Saturday’s London derby against Chelsea following a heavy collision with Marcos Alonso.
Our Spanish right back is now in the final stages of the FA return to play protocol for concussion. He has had daily assessments and successfully completed each step of the graded progression so far.
Hector will be further assessed on Thursday and Friday, prior to a final decision being made regarding his availability for full training and Saturday’s home match against Hull City.
Personally, I think it would be wise to give Bellerin a few more days to recover as you can’t be too careful when it comes to head injuries. Let’s give him the weekend off and save him for next weeks trip to Bayern Munich.
