Devastating blow: Arsenal star ruled out for the rest of the season

It appears Arsenal have been dealt a devastating injury blow with the Mirror reporting that Santi Cazorla will miss the rest of the season due to his on-going Achilles problem.

Cazorla has been on the sidelines since aggravating a long-standing Achilles injury during our 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets back in October.

The midfielder has undergone a number of operations in recent months in a desperate attempt to clear up the issue with inflammation around the ankle refusing to subside.

The Mirror say that specialist now hope the problem has finally been resolved but it’s going to be a long road back to full fitness and the club doctors now expect Santi to miss the rest of the season.

Arsene Wenger had hoped for Cazorla to be fit during the final weeks of the season, however, the plan is now to focus on getting him ready for the start of next season.

The news is a HUGE blow but unfortunately it’s not that unexpected as Cazorla’s Achilles has been causing him trouble for some time and this kind of injury was predicted at the start of the campaign.

Santi is a key player for us and it’s no surprise that our form has slumped since he’s been injured so I’m gutted that we won’t see him again this season.

However, the Mirror say there is no chance of Cazorla leaving this summer after the club activated an automatic one-year extension to his contract.

At 32 and with chronic Achilles problems, it’s a bit of a risk by the club to give him another deal but I suppose it’s worth it for a player of Cazorla’s quality.

Let’s just hope we’ve finally got to the bottom of this injury and he’s able to enjoy an injury-free campaign next year as we’re a totally different team with him in the midfield.
