Cazorla replacement? Arsenal linked with a move for French midfielder
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have been put on red alert after long-term target Adrien Rabiot admitted he’d consider a move away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Rabiot is a name most of you should be familiar with as he’s constantly been linked with a move to Arsenal for several years with Arsene Wenger believed to be a huge fan of the midfielder.
He joined PSG’s youth team in 2010 before breaking in to the first team set-up two years later and he’s now considered as one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in Europe.
The 21-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular and he’s made just 13 league starts so far this season with the likes of Marco Verratti, Blaise Matuidi and Javier Pastore ahead of him in the pecking order.
Speculation throughout last summer tipped the French international to make a switch to north London but a move failed to materialise and he ended up staying at PSG.
However, the rumours have began circulating once again after Rabiot admitted he would that he would consider a move away from the Parc des Princes if a big European club came in for him.
Rabiot is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail:
“I am under contract until 2019 and I do not think I am in a rush. Honestly, I am not thinking about that.
‘If there are offers from big clubs, that obviously demands that they are considered.
‘Clubs like Real Madrid, they are truly great clubs but, truly, the most important thing is the present and I am concentrating on what I am doing right now, that is the best thing to do.’
The Daily Mail claim that Rabiot’s comments are sure to have alerted Arsenal and suggest that we may now revive our long-standing interest in the defensive midfielder this summer.
If Wenger decides to stay and sign a new contract then I wouldn’t be surprised if he did make another attempt to land Rabiot as the boss is clearly a fan and we need another option in the middle of the park.
Santi Cazorla has been plagued by chronic Achilles problems this season and I don’t see how we can rely on him to play over 20 games next year so we need a long-term successor to come in.
Man City fear striker will join Arsenal
Jack Wilshere’s future is also in serious doubt while Aaron Ramsey’s endured another frustrating campaign so I think a new top class central midfielder needs to be a priority this summer.
Even if a new manager comes in he could do worse than to look at Rabiot as he’s a huge talent who’s got a big future ahead of him and with two years remaining on his contract, PSG might decide it’s time to cash-in.
