Arsenal insider offers worrying update on Arsene Wenger’s future
According to the Daily Mail, sources inside Arsenal claim that Arsene Wenger is edging towards staying at the club and trying to prove his doubters wrong.
Wenger’s current deal expires in June and there is growing pressure on the Frenchman to walk away at the end of the season following another familiar collapse in the Champions League and Premier League.
Tuesday’s humiliating 5-1 loss to Bayern was the final straw for some and there were protests held before the match in midweek and Saturday’s FA Cup win over Lincoln with supporters calling for Wenger to end his long association with the club.
Reports suggest a two-year contract extension has been on the table for some time but Arsene has always maintained he’d take his time in deciding his future.
You’d assume that recent events would be enough to persuade Wenger that it’s time for a change of scenery, however, the Daily Mail claim that Wenger is more determined than ever to try and turn things around.
The newspaper says that a ‘source’ close to the club has claimed that the 67-year-old is leaning towards staying at Arsenal with the boss already pressing ahead with transfer plans for the summer as though he’ll be around next season.
The Daily Mail suggest that we still need to finish the season well and secure a top four finish to convince Wenger to stay at the club and if we miss out on Champions League qualification then the boss may change his mind and leave.
So as it stands it seems Arsene is now determined to continue his reign in north London, however, thankfully Arsenal’s hierarchy are still making plans in-case he leaves with the Mail claiming that intermediary agents have began sounding out the likes of Max Allegri and Thomas Tuchel.
Personally, I think it would be a huge mistake for Wenger to continue as manager next season as it would only further fragment the fan-base and I’ve seen nothing this season to suggest he has what it takes to have us challenging for serious honours next year.
A new start is needed at the Emirates so I hope Arsene does the right thing and tells the club soon that he won’t be signing a new deal. That would allow the fans to come together and give him the send-off he deserves.
