Arsenal ready to snap-up Barca attacker for £25m [Times]

According to the Times [via the Sun], Arsenal are ready to pay £25m to sign Barcelona bench-warmer Arda Turan this summer as we plan for life without Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Our star duo are approaching the final year of their current contracts and they look increasingly likely to leave as we’ve failed to agree terms over extensions.

Arsene Wenger confirmed yesterday that all further negotiations have been postponed until the end of the season but all signs suggest Sanchez and Ozil will be off this summer so we need to start thinking about replacement.

Several names have been linked in the media recently but the Sun are carrying a report from The Times that claims we’re now plotting a £25m swoop for Barca attacker Arda Turan.

The Turkish international has struggled to establish himself at the Nou Camp following his move from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 and he’s started just 13 La Liga games so far this season.

He has three years left on his contract but Turan is being tipped to leave in search of regular first team football this summer and it looks as though Arsenal are ready to offer him a fresh start.

I personally don’t think Turan is on the same level as Sanchez or Ozil but let’s be honest, we’re going to struggle to sign players of a similar caliber – especially if we miss out on the top four.

Turan would therefore be a solid addition to the squad and he’d give us plenty of options in attack as he can play anywhere across the attacking positions behind the striker.

At £25m, he’d also be a decent buy in today’s market but my only concern is that he’s now 30 so is approaching the final years of his career.
