Arsenal star to be given fitness check ahead of Man City clash

The Evening Standard are reporting that Alexis Sanchez will be assessed by the Arsenal medical team ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Sanchez suffered an ankle injury during our 3-1 defeat at West Brom earlier this month and Arsene Wenger says his ankle was left in a ‘terrible state’ following a horror challenge from James McClean shortly before half time.

The 28-year-old was still allowed to link-up with the Chile squad and has played the 180 minutes during their World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Venezuela.

Sanchez is flying back to London today but isn’t expected to return to training at London Colney until Friday after enduring a 7,200 mile trip back from South America.

Thankfully our clash with City isn’t until Sunday afternoon which will give Sanchez an extra day to recover from the long haul trip but the club are still concerned about the effects of his exploits for Chile during the international break.

The Evening Standard claim that Arsenal’s medical team will assess Sanchez’s physical state and his ankle problem to see if he’s 100% fit to face City on Sunday.

Our star man looked in top condition for his country last night as he opened the scoring with a superb free-kick before playing a key role in two other goals as Chile beat Venezuela 3-1 but it’s not exactly ideal for him to be travelling thousands of miles around the globe before such an important game.

However, I still fully expect Sanchez to start against City on Sunday and hopefully he continues his fine form as we desperately need a win to get our top four challenge back on track following a nightmare run of losing four of our last five league games.
