Club fear losing ‘immense’ 29-goal hitman to Arsenal
According to the Mirror, Lyon fear losing Alexandre Lacazette to the likes of Arsenal with the hot-shot striker expected to leave France this summer.
Lacazette has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal for several years and with Alexis Sanchez tipped to leave this summer after failing to sign a new deal, the French international is once again being touted as a target.
The 25-year-old is enjoying a superb campaign in Ligue 1 as he’s enhanced his reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers with 29 goals in all competitions so far.
However, with Lyon set to miss out on Champions League qualification, Lacazette is expected to find a new club this summer and the Mirror reported last month that Arsene Wenger had set his sights on luring him to the Emirates in a £50m deal.
Lacazette has just two years remaining on his current deal so Lyon may be forced to cash-in before his value drops and the clubs director Bernard Lacombe admits they fear losing the striker this summer.
He’s quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“The departure of Alex would be very difficult for our club. Because even if we could make lots of money, he is an immense player and I do not think that we will understand the magnitude of his departure fully until it happens.
“Then, it will be a lot more difficult for us, even if we make a good decision on the replacement that would come in.
“I do not know which team he will go to. I hope for only one thing, that he will stay with us for another year, or two, because he is an immense player.”
Obviously if we do end up losing Sanchez we need to bring in a top class forward and Lacazette has all the attributes needed to be a huge success here in the Premier League.
However, we aren’t the only club in the running and the Mirror claim that Atletico Madrid are also pushing hard to take the striker to Spain and they are almost guaranteed to be able to offer him Champions League football.
Arsenal on the other hand are struggling to finish in the top four so unless we rediscover our form over the final weeks of the season, we might end up missing out on Lacazette this summer.
