Attacker wants ‘dream’ Arsenal move despite Liverpool interest

According to a report in the Express, highly-rated Nigerian attacker Henry Onyekuru wants to secure a ‘dream’ move to Arsenal despite interest from the likes of Liverpool.

Onyekuru came through the Aspire Academy in Qatar before joining Belgian outfit Eupen in 2015 and the forward has been catching the eye with some excellent performances this season.

The 19-year-old has scored 17 goals and and provided a further 7 assists in his 33 appearances in all competitions which has led to interest from all over Europe.

The Express claim that Liverpool have now joined Borussia Dortmund, Celtic, Southampton, Bournemouth and Bruges in the race to land Onyekuru this summer.

The report indicates that Jurgen Klopp has sent his scouts to watch the teenager in action on several occasions in recent weeks and the player is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

However, it seems Onyekuru has his heart set on a move further South as the Express quote the attacker as saying his dream is to follow in the footsteps of his boyhood hero Thierry Henry and play in the Red & White of Arsenal.

“I hope to find myself one day in a top club in Europe and to play for my national team,’ the youngster admitted last summer,” he said.

“The shirt I dream of wearing is Arsenal’s because I’ve always had Thierry Henry as a role model since I was little.”

Onyekuru is predominantly a left-sided attacker but he’s also capable of playing on the right or through the middle as a centre-forward so his versatility would be a useful asset to the squad.

However, we’ll have to wait and see whether Arsene Wenger, or whoever else may be in charge come the summer, decides to fulfill his dream by bringing Onyekuru to the Emirates.

I personally think we may have more pressing issues to attend to this summer as it’s going to be an extremely busy few months with the squad in need of an overhaul while we’ve also the future’s of several players, and a manager, to resolve.
