A look ahead at Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final against Man City
Arsenal will look to put their Premier League troubles behind them when we take on Manchester City at Wembley for a place in the final of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
It’s safe to say our season has imploded at just the wrong time and humiliating defeats to the likes of Crystal Palace, West Brom and Liverpool mean we’re highly unlikely to finish in the top four this season.
So the pressure is intensifying on Arsene Wenger to step aside when his contract expires at the end of the season and he may need to win the FA Cup to save his job.
The Frenchman has won the competition more than any other manager and we’ve lifted the trophy twice in the last three years so we have excellent pedigree in the FA Cup, but that won’t be enough against a top City side.
Recent performances on the pitch haven’t been good enough and while City have also been inconsistent themselves, I fear for us if we play like we have done in recent games.
The balance of the team hasn’t been right for months and it’s safe to say we’re missing Santi Cazorla but that can’t excuse how bad we’ve been without him as this squad is capable of so much more than they’ve produced.
Understandably the fans aren’t happy and it seems we’re now starting to vote with our feet. We were given 32,000 tickets for the game on Sunday but are yet to sell out our allocation so you can still buy your ticket online at Ticketbis which is almost unbelievable for a huge semi-final against City.
However, I’m sure those who do turn up at Wembley this weekend will be right behind the team and I would love to see us book our place in the final where we’d face either Chelsea or Tottenham.
No disrespect to Hull or Aston Villa, but it’s been a while since we were involved in an FA Cup final with another ‘top’ team and for me beating Spurs in the final next month would be the perfect way for Wenger to end his reign in north London.
