Arsenal insider tips Wenger to sign £100m striker
Arsenal legend Robert Pires has tipped Arsene Wenger to pull off a major coup by securing the signature of Monaco’s £100m-rated striker Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Mbappe has become one of the most sought-after players in the world after bursting on to the scene this season having scored 23 goals and provided 11 assists for Monaco.
His sensational performances have helped his club challenge PSG for the Ligue 1 title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League so understandably he’s been attracting a lot of attention.
Wenger has previously confirmed that he tried to sign the 18-year-old last summer and recently admitted he’d love to bring him to the Emirates this summer but conceded it’s going to be extremely difficult given the competition we’ll face.
Practically every top club in Europe has been linked with Mbappe and the Daily Mail claim Monaco will demand a world record £100m for his signature this summer.
However, despite all that, Arsenal legend Robert Pires has said he believes we’ll still win the race to sign the French international hitman and feels Wenger is the right man to mentor him.
Pires is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail:
‘I do think Arsenal will sign him. The problem is how much. Mbappe has the potential to play for Arsenal and Wenger is the right manager to manage him.
‘Monaco and Arsenal are very similar in clubs, so it won’t be much of a transition.’
The youngster has been likened to Thierry Henry and while Pires can understand why given the similarities between the two, he rightly points out the 18-year-old isn’t ready to be compared to the great man just yet.
Pires continued:
‘The comparison is unnecessary, he’s not ready to be compared to Thierry. Mbappe is a very similar player but to compare the two players would be unfair.
‘I hope that Kylian can follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, he has the same profile as Thierry – quick, strong and a great finisher but he’s very young so I would hold off on comparisons just yet.’
Pires spent six years at Arsenal, still trains with the squad at London Colney on occasion and regularly speaks with Wenger so he’s well placed to know a few things about our interest in Mbappe.

Wenger has made no secret of his interest but Pires must know something coming from behind the scenes to publicly back us to sign the teenager. Let’s hope he’s right as Mbappe is a sensational talent.
I’m still not getting my hopes us though as I just don’t see how we’ll be able to afford the staggering money it will take to sign him.
