Arsenal eye swoop after £50m hitman tells agent he wants move, Man Utd also keen

By on May 1, 2017

Karim Benzema is once again being linked with a move to Arsenal with a report in the Mirror claiming we’ve been placed on red alert after he told his agent he wants to leave Real Madrid this summer.

Benzema has long been linked with a move to the Emirates with the French international constantly tipped to join Arsenal practically every window since he was at Lyon in 2009.

The rumours have resurfaced once again as we approach the summer with the Mirror reporting that Benzema has informed his agent he is keen to leave Madrid at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has endured a difficult campaign that’s seen him score only 15 goals – which is his lowest tally since joining the club eight years ago – and the striker has been regularly booed by his own fans.

Zinedine Zidane has kept faith with the French hitman but it seems he’s had enough and wants a new challenge with the Mirror suggesting the news of Benzema’s unhappiness in Spain has alerted Arsenal.

The paper says any potential deal will set us back £50m but we aren’t the only club showing a keen interest with Man Utd also hoping to lure Benzema to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for another top class striker to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it looks like the so-called ‘Special One’ wants to be reunited with Benzema having worked with him at Madrid.

Who knows how much truth there is behind these rumours but if I was a betting man I would use my William Hill free bet to back Benzema still being at the Bernabeu next season as we’ve heard these sort of rumours constantly and he always ends up staying.

For Madrid to sell they’d have to find someone to replace Benzema and there aren’t that many attainable top class strikers around who could fill the Frenchman’s boots. Kylian Mbappe has been linked with he could cost around £100m which would put Madrid off.

However, I’m sure this won’t be the last time Benzema is linked with Arsenal over the coming months and you never know what can happen in football. Maybe he does want a new challenge.

There’s no doubt he’s still a supreme striker but we can probably forget about signing him if we miss out on the top four – which looks like a distinct possibility following our poor showing at Tottenham on Sunday.
