Duo recalled in 3-4-3: My Arsenal starting XI vs Southampton
Arsenal desperately need to come away with all three points to boost our top four hopes when we take on Southampton at St Marys on Wednesday night.
This is the team I’d like to see Arsene Wenger go with….
Goalkeeper: Cech
Cech continued his fine recent form with another solid performance during the win over Man Utd so no doubt he deserves to keep his place between the sticks tomorrow.
Defence: Mustafi, Koscielny, Holding
I called for Holding to be recalled against United and thankfully Wenger did just that as the young defender didn’t let us down. Gabriel will be hoping to start but I think Holding deserves to keep his place.
Koscielny is a doubt after picking up a knock at the weekend but the Frenchman was able to train this afternoon so I expect he’ll be fit enough to lead the side out tomorrow night.
Monreal has been deployed in defence recently but I’d prefer to see him back on the wing with the fit-again Mustafi brought back in to the side.
Midfield: Bellerin, Xhaka, The Ox, Monreal
Gibbs hasn’t really taken his chance to cement his position in the left wing-back role so I’d drop him to the bench with Monreal moving out wide.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been excellent in the right wing-back position but as I’ve said for a while now, Bellerin is the long-term occupant so I’d like to see him come back in.
That would allow The Ox to move in to a more central position with Ramsey unfortunate to miss out as he was excellent against United but the Welshman will be a very useful option from the bench.
Xhaka is a slight doubt after aggravating his calf against United but the Swiss international trained today so should be fit and he’ll be looking to continue his excellent recent form.
Attack: Ozil, Sanchez, Welbeck
Wenger rightly went for Welbeck up front on Sunday and he repaid the boss with the crucial second goal so he deserves to keep his place with Giroud once again on the bench.
Ozil was more influential at the weekend so he’ll be looking to build on that display while I’d like to see more from Sanchez as he underwhelmed against Mourinho’s men.
The new formation means Walcott is struggling for starts but he’ll be a weapon from the bench while Perez is back in contention after recovering from a thigh problem.
This would be my line-up:
