[Ratings] Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland: Ozil runs the show for Gunners

By on May 16, 2017

Arsenal moved to within just one point of the top four after easing to a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Emirates this evening thanks to a second half double from Alexis Sanchez.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  7/10 | Made a couple of decent saves to keep the score at 0-0. Impressive form continued.

Holding  7/10 | Another encouraging display from the young defender. Solid at the back and brought the ball out of defence at times too.

Mustafi  6.5/10 | A couple of rash tackles. Not as composed as he has been in recent weeks. Hit the bar with a looping header.

Monreal  6.5/10 | Almost scored a comical own goal with a stray backpass. I think he’s more comfortable on the left wing.

Bellerin  7/10 | A real danger down the right and got in to some good positions but final ball let him down at times.

Xhaka  8/10 | Played some wonderful balls including a stunning pass to find Ozil in the build-up for the opener. Controlled the game in another impressive display.

Ramsey  7/10 | Good form continued as he put in another lung-busting performance in the middle of the park.

Gibbs  6/10 | Poor end product once again from Gibbsy. Just not up to the required standard.

Ozil  9/10 | Ran the game and played some superb passes including a stunner to assist Sanchez for the opener. Created an incredible 12 chances. MOTM.

Sanchez  8/10 | Didn’t look fit and was perhaps a little selfish at times but was still on hand to score to close range goals to seal a vital win.

Giroud  6/10 | Missed a couple of great chances to open the scoring in the first half. Lost his battle with Pickford.

Subs:

Welbeck  6/10 | Almost on the scoresheet with a low effort.

Iwobi  6.5/10 | Also forced Pickford in to a fine save.

Walcott N/A

So we take the race for the top four down to the final day, which is probably an achievement in itself considering where we were a few weeks ago. Let’s hope Middlesbrough can do us a favour and get something at Anfield and we can snatch fourth by beating Everton….
