Arsenal boost: club ready to do business over sale of Portuguese duo

By on May 19, 2017

According to a report in Correio de Manha via the Mirror, Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Danilo and Andre Silva with Porto ready to cash-in on the duo this summer.

Arsene Wenger is ready to defy a growing number of disgruntled fans by signing a new deal and the boss will oversee a huge overhaul of his squad over the coming months.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Wenger is eyeing a double swoop on Porto for Danilo and Silva and the Mirror are now reporting that we’ve been handed a major boost in our pursuit of the duo.

That’s because the paper is citing a report from Portuguese outlet Correio de Manha that claims Porto are ready to do business for Danilo and Silva this summer.

The report suggests that the Primeira Liga giants are relying on the money generated from the sale of their star duo, so it opens the door for Arsenal to make their move.

Danilo is a powerful holding midfielder who’s become a key player since joining Porto from Maritimo in 2015 and he’s now also established himself in the Portuguese national team set-up.

I personally think we need a dominant force in the middle of the park and Danilo has all the attributes needed to be a real success in the Premier League, so it will be interesting to see if Wenger formalises his interest.

Silva on the other hand is a skillful striker who has enjoyed a superb campaign having scored 21 goals for Porto while he’s also notched 5 goals in 6 caps for Portugal so far.

The 21-year-old could be viewed as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez if we’re forced to sell the Chilean this summer due to an on-going contract dispute.

As much as Silva has huge potential, he’s nowhere near Sanchez’s class just yet so it would be something of a risk if we do end up swapping the two this summer.
