Triple injury boost for Arsenal ahead of FA Cup final v Chelsea
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have been handed a triple injury boost with Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Shkodran Mustafi all expected to face Chelsea this weekend.
There were fears Sanchez could miss the FA Cup final on Saturday evening after limping out of our 3-1 win over Everton with a suspected hamstring injury.
Alexis immediately signalled to be substituted after pulling up in the 68th minute and he was spotted wearing strapping on his thigh during the lap of honour after the game.
However, the Evening Standard claim Sanchez’s withdrawal was just precautionary and there are no concerns over his availability to face Chelsea this weekend.
Obviously this is a huge relief as it would have been a nightmare to face the newly-crowned Premier League champions without our best player so hopefully Sanchez is fully-fit and raring to go on Saturday.
There is also positive news on Oxlade-Chamberlain as the newspaper says he’s due to resume full first team training after recovering from a hamstring injury that’s kept him out for the last three games.
The Ox was playing superbly-well in the right wing-back role before suffering the injury against Southampton earlier this month so he’ll be hoping to regain his place from Hector Bellerin against Chelsea.
In a further boost, the Evening Standard says that Mustafi is expected to be back in contention this weekend despite reports suggesting the centre-back is a doubt due to concussion.
Mustafi missed the Everton game after taking a kick to the head during the win over Sunderland last week and while the German international will continue to be monitored over the coming days, the newspaper say he will be fit to take on Chelsea.
This will come as a huge boost as we’re already low on centre-back options with Gabriel suffering suspected knee ligament damage at the weekend while Laurent Koscielny is suspended following his sending off.
If Mustafi is available, then I expect he’ll start in a back three alongside Rob Holding and Nacho Monreal with Kieran Gibbs returning in the left wing-back role after recovering from a minor thigh injury.
