Arsenal to submit record bid after Wenger holds talks with striker
There is plenty of talk surrounding Arsenal’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe today with widespread reports suggesting Arsene Wenger is still very-much in the hunt for the Monaco hitman.
Mbappe is the most in-demand player of the summer window with practically every big club in Europe showing an interest after he helped fire Monaco to the title with 24 goals and 14 assists last season.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 18-year-old with Wenger renewing his interest after missing out last summer when Mbappe snubbed a number of clubs to sign a professional deal with Monaco.
However, the teen sensational now looks set for a move and the Independent are citing a report from L’Equipe today that claims Wenger has spoken directly with Mbappe on the phone about a switch to the Emirates.
The French daily newspaper says the boss did his best to persuade Mbappe to join Arsenal this summer and discussed the strikers entire career plan, which based on yesterday’s reports from Le Parisian could see him join Arsenal for 3/4 years before making his dream move to Real Madrid.
Central to Wenger’s attempts to convince Mbappe that Arsenal is the right move for him at this stage of his career is the promise of regular first team football – something he’d struggle to get right now at Madrid.
It seems the boss is also using his reputation for developing young French strikers to his advantage as he can point to the likes of Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka as prime examples of his success in that department.
The L’Equipe report comes as Football London claim that Wenger has now grown increasingly confident – presumably following his call with Mbappe – that he’ll be able to pull off this sensational coup.
The outlet says that Arsenal are so convinced that we can sign the teenager that we’re set to launch a world record bid that would be worth in excess of the £118m that PSG have supposedly put on the table.

So it looks like the situation is this; Wenger is trying to persuade Mbappe to join Arsenal this summer for a fee in the region of £120m, give him a starring role and help develop his game over the next few years before allowing him to join Madrid.
It’s now down to the striker to decide if this is how he wants his career to go or whether he wants to cut out a ‘stepping stone’ move to Arsenal and go straight to the Bernabeu.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this one plays out but needless-to-say I’d be delighted if we could pull this off, even if Mbappe did only end up staying for a few years.
