Arsenal’s record bid set to be accepted as Wenger closes-in on 37-goal hitman

According to the Guardian, Arsenal have tabled a £44m bid for Alexandre Lacazette which is likely to be accepted by Lyon so Arsene Wenger is closing in on a top class striker.

The boss is facing arguably the most important summer of his 21-year tenure at the club as he needs to keep hold of key players and build a squad capable of challenging for the title next season.

A consistent goal-scoring striker is the priority and Lacazette has once again been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates after we failed to land him last summer.

It looks like after weeks of speculation, Wenger has now formalised his interest as the Guardian are reporting that Arsenal have now lodged a £44m bid for the Lyon hitman.

The newspaper goes on to say that the offer is likely to be ‘acceptable’ to the French outfit and negotiations over a deal are now believed to be at an advanced stage with further talks expected early next week when the player returns from holiday.

Lacazette has just come off the back of an other impressive campaign that saw him score 37 goals in all competitions and he’s back on the market after seeing his proposed move to Atletico Madrid collapse.

The 26-year-old recently softened his stance on only wanting to join a club playing in the Champions League which paved the way for Arsenal to step-up their pursuit of the striker.

I’ve seen similar reports coming out of France so it looks like these rumours may have some foundation so Wenger could be about to get his hands on a new top class striker in what would be a record deal for the club.

Lacazette would be a big upgrade on Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud so I’d welcome his arrival but it remains to be seen what this all means for our pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.

Widespread reports today suggest we remain confident of pulling off a sensational deal to sign the Monaco striker but it’s difficult to see us buying both Mbappe and Lacazette unless there will be some high-profile departures this summer.
