Wenger convinced Sanchez is staying after ‘positive’ talks
According to quotes in the Mirror, Arsene Wenger is convinced Alexis Sanchez is staying at Arsenal after holding ‘positive’ talks via text message with the attacker.
Sanchez has just one year remaining on his current contract at the Emirates and we’ve yet to agree terms over an extension despite lengthy talks with his representatives.
The Chilean international is reportedly demanding up to £400,000-a-week and the likes of Manchester City have been strongly linked with a move for the attacker this summer.
Wenger has always insisted he wouldn’t sell to a domestic rival even if Sanchez doesn’t sign a new deal but it looks as though the 28-year-old may be keen to stay at Arsenal afterall.
Speaking on our pre-season tour, Wenger has told reporters that he’s confident Sanchez will not look to quit the club after exchanging ‘positive’ text messages with the player this summer.
When asked if Sanchez will stay, Arsene is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Of course. There is not a lot to resolve at the moment with the player. I have spoken through text and it was very positive. My thoughts are always positive.”
Let’s hope Wenger’s confidence is well founded as it would be a huge boost if Sanchez was to stay at the club but it’s interesting that the boss doesn’t actually state that he’ll sign a new deal. Just that he’ll stay this summer.
Wenger has always said Alexis will stay because he still has a contract for another year so maybe these comments are just an extension of that belief and not a suggestion that Sanchez will actually sign a new contract.

If so, then it doesn’t really change much at all as the club would be mad to let Alexis go in to next season without committing his future to Arsenal.
So let’s hope Arsene actually meant he’s confident Sanchez will sign a new deal. Now that would be something to get excited about….
