Arsene Wenger wants to sign Bundesliga midfielder this summer
According to a report in the Express, Arsene Wenger wants to lure Leon Goretzka to Arsenal this summer but we’ll face plenty of competition to sign the Schalke midfielder.
The boss has already signed striker Alexandre Lacazette and left-back Sead Kolasniac but with as many as eight squad players set to leave, we need to bring in more new faces this summer.
A central midfielder should be on the agenda as Jack Wilshere is expected to leave while Santi Cazorla is facing a battle to overcome his chronic Achilles issues that have hampered him for the past two seasons.
Goretzka has emerged as a potential target and the Express are citing a report from Bild that claims Wenger is keen to bring the midfielder to Arsenal this summer after monitoring the player last year.
The 22-year-old is expected to leave Schalke this summer after rejecting a lucrative new contract and he could be available at a reasonable price as he has just one year remaining on his current deal.
Goretzka has been with Schalke since joining the club in 2013 and is now considered one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Bundesliga while he’s also broken in to the German national team squad.
However, it looks like we’ll face plenty of competition for his signature as the German publication claim that Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also vying for his signature.
That’s some fierce competition but of all the other interested clubs, I think Bayern are the biggest threat as they always seem to sign the best young talent in Germany so I wouldn’t bet against Goretzka ending up at the Allianz Arena.
