Arsenal miss out as Real Madrid agree £161m deal to sign Mbappe
It looks like Arsenal have missed out on the signing of Kylian Mbappe as Marca claim Real Madrid have agreed a deal with Monaco worth a whopping £161m!
Mbappe became the hottest property in football after enjoying a sensational campaign last year that saw him score 26 goals and provide 14 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title.
Arsenal have been one of several top clubs chasing the 18-year-old’s signature this summer with the L’Equipe [via Football London] reporting last month that we’d tabled a £121m bid for the teenager.
Arsene Wenger has been in regular contact with his former club regarding Mbappe’s situation and there have been reports the boss spent several hours with the striker and his family discussion a potential switch to the Emirates.
However, it looks like we’ve missed out as Marca claim today that Madrid have now reached an agreement in principal with Monaco to sign Mbappe in a stunning deal worth up to £161m (€180m).
The Spanish publication says the deal was put in place following a meeting between coach Zinedine Zidane, president Florentino Perez and general director Jose Angel Sanchez in Los Angeles.
Marca suggest Madrid will pay Monaco £143m up front with the rest coming in add ons and Mbappe is set to sign a six-year contract worth £6.2m-per-season.
It’s also reported that the teenage sensation wants to stay with Madrid and fight for his place this coming season rather than spend another year on loan at Monaco.
Madrid have raised the money needed to buy Mbappe by selling Alvaro Morata and Danilo while James Rodriguez has also joined Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal.
We’ll have to wait for official confirmation of this supposed deal but Marca are a well-placed source close to Madrid so it does look like Mbappe is heading for the Bernabeu.

If true, then we should expect Man City to intensify their efforts to sign Alexis Sanchez as they too were in for Mbappe but it also suggests that Arsenal target Thomas Lemar IS available at the right price.
