Arsenal tipped to sign £35.75m star ahead of Tottenham

By on July 26, 2017

L’Equipe, via the Daily Star, are reporting that Arsenal are favourites ahead of Tottenham to sign Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri this summer in a potential £35.75 deal.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for further reinforcements after only signing Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette so far this summer and is looks like the boss wants to add another central midfielder.

Seri has been linked with a move to the Emirates for several months after catching the eye with some excellent displays for Nice last season to help them secure a third-place finish in Ligue 1.

The 25-year-old scored seven goals and provided a further nine assists to forge a reputation as one of the best all-round midfielders in French football last season.

His form didn’t go unnoticed in north London and the Daily Star are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims Arsenal are favourites ahead of Tottenham to sign the Ivory Coast international.

The French publication says we have a genuine interest in signing Seri this summer and are expected to intensify our efforts to get a deal agreed after Nice play their Champions League qualifier against Ajax.

It remains to be seen whether Wenger will be prepared to meet his £35.75m (€40m) release clause but he may try and negotiate a lower fee considering Seri has just two years left on his contract and is showing no sign of signing an extension.

I’ve said for several months that central midfield is a problem area for us so it’s good to hear the club are looking to strengthen in that department this summer.

Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey seemed to be forging a decent partnership during the closing stages of last season but I’m still not convinced it’s good enough to win the league and we have very little quality behind those two.

Jack Wilshere is almost certain to leave this summer, Mohamed Elneny is also being linked with a move away while Santi Cazorla can’t be relied upon due to on-going concerns over his Achilles injury.

Francis Coquelin certainly isn’t good enough to start for Arsenal so we need to bring in another midfielder and it seems Wenger is seriously considering launching a swoop for Seri over the coming weeks.
