Arsenal expected to agree £14m deal for want-away striker
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are expected to finally agree a deal worth around £14m with Deportivo La Coruna for the sale of unhappy striker Lucas Perez.
We only signed Perez from Deportivo in a £17m deal last summer but the Spaniard endured a frustrating time during his debut season in North London.
The 28-year-old started just 2 Premier League games and 9 across all competitions with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Despite his lack of starts, Perez still impressed when given the chance as he managed to score 7 goals and provide a further 5 assists – including a hat-trick against Basel in the Champions League.
Understandably, Perez was upset by his treatment from Arsene Wenger as he feels he wasn’t given a fair chance at Arsenal and has made it clear this summer that he wants to leave the club.
The striker has attracted plenty of interest with the likes of Everton and Newcastle both hoping to keep him in England on loan while a clutch of European clubs have been credited with an interest but Wenger is insisting on a permanent sale.
Perez has always favoured a move back to Deportivo but we’ve struggled to agree terms with the La Liga outfit with their latest £11m rejected by Arsenal officials [via the Evening Standard].
However, it looks like a deal is now edging closer to completion as the Evening Standard claim Perez is expected to seal a £14m move back to Deportivo before the window shuts next week.
Wenger has been desperate to offload some of his fringe players in order to make room for new signings so hopefully once Perez is off the books we might step-up our interest in the likes of Thomas Lemar.

You can’t deny that Perez has been poorly treated during his time at the Emirates as he was never given a chance to prove himself, despite showing real promise when given a rare opportunity.
Let’s hope this deal is wrapped-up quickly so Wenger can buy a player he actually wants to play this season….
