[Tweet] Midfielder posts message to Arsenal fans after completing £40m move
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has posted a heartfelt message to Arsenal fans after completing his £40m move to Liverpool this afternoon.
The 24-year-old was in the final year of his contract and Arsene Wenger was initially determined to keep hold of him as the club was confident he’d sign an extension.
However, things changed after Oxlade-Chamberlain told Wenger during talks last week that he wanted to leave and we began negotiations with interested parties.
A move to Chelsea looked to be on the cards after we agreed a £40m deal with our London rivals but The Ox snubbed the move in favour of joining Liverpool.
The Evening Standard claim the Merseysiders matched Chelsea’s offer of £35m up front with a further £5m in add ons and Oxlade-Chamberlain completed his medical last night.
Liverpool announced on Liverpoolfc.com earlier this afternoon that the midfielder had joined the club on a five-year contract and The Ox has now taken to Twitter to post a message to Arsenal and it’s fans.
To be fair to him, Chamberlain had some nice words to say about his six years in north London where he won three FA Cup’s as he thanked Wenger and all the staff for everything they have done for him.
Interestingly, he ends his message by saying that while it was a tough decision to leave Arsenal, he feels a move to Liverpool is what’s best for his ‘ongoing development’.

I personally think £40m for a player who was in the last year of his contract and hasn’t performed consistently for Arsenal in years is a great piece of business by the club.
If I’m honest, I’d rather he hadn’t gone to Liverpool as I can see him doing pretty well under Klopp but I suppose he was always going to join a domestic rival so it didn’t really matter where he went.
