Team News: Wenger confirms 4 players will miss Man City trip
Arsene Wenger has offered a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City and confirmed four players will miss the game.
We didn’t pick up any fresh injury concerns following last night’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League group stages.
However, the boss provided an update on Danny Welbeck’s fitness and confirmed that the attacker is ‘not far’ from overcoming a groin injury that he picked up against Watford last month.
David Ospina is also close to making his return from his own groin problem that’s kept him out of the last three games but neither player is available for selection this weekend.
Wenger also gave the latest on Shkodran Mustafi and the German international is also out of Sunday’s trip to the Etihad but should be available when we take on Tottenham after the international break.
The final update was on Calum Chambers and while the centre-back is in full training again after overcoming a hip injury, he still won’t be considered available for selection just yet.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on Welbeck and Ospina…
They are not far, Danny is not far and David is in training as well but the Man City game will come too early for them.on Mustafi…
City is too early as well for him, we have to be a bit more patient with him. Normally all three should be available after the international break.on Calum Chambers…
He is back in full training and available after the international break as well.
So it looks like we should have virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from when Spurs come to the Emirates in two weeks time – unless we pick up the inevitable injuries during the international break!
The one player Wenger didn’t mention in his update was Sead Kolasinac but the left-back is expected to be passed fit despite limping off with a hip injury last weekend.
However, we’ll have to make-do without the above mentioned four players but the first team should still be fresh after enjoying a week off as the second-string played in the Europa League last night.
Let’s pray that makes a big difference against City on Sunday….
